Islamabad News: The Capital Development Authority Development Working Party (CDA-DWP) permits the construction of a new Underpass at the Shaheen Chowk Intersection. During the 78th meeting of CDA-DWP on Thursday, headed by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randawa, the decision regarding Shaheen Chowk Underpass was notified.

The underpass, situated at the intersection of 9th Avenue and Khayaban-e-Iqbal, has been designed. The M/s NESPAK is estimated the total cost of PKR 1.899 billion for the project. An underpass and a roundabout will be built along Khayaban-e-Iqbal to streamline traffic flow in the area.
This substantial infrastructure project aims to significantly alleviate the growing traffic issues that commuters in the capital face. The construction timeline is up to six months. The urgency reflects the CDA’s commitment to resolving persistent traffic congestion, which has become a daily hardship for locals.
To Streamline Traffic Flow: CDA Approves Shaheen Chowk Underpass
In addition to the Shaheen Chowk underpass, the CDA-DWP approved PC-I for a flyover at the intersection of G.T. Road and Islamabad Highway. The two-lane flyover at Rawat T-Chowk will facilitate signal-free traffic from the Gujar Khan side (N-5) onto the Islamabad Highway.

The meeting also approved the creation of a Christian graveyard in Sector H-8/1, with a budget of PKR 275 million. A key goal of the initiative is to promote inclusivity, interfaith harmony, and improved public health standards. Representatives from the Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Division, Ministry of Interior, Finance Division, CDA Board Members and related departments attended the meeting.
The Shaheen Chowk underpass will become a vital part of Islamabad’s traffic system, as it improves commute for daily users.
