Housing scheme’s plea for revised plan turned down

MULTAN: Commissioner Javed Akhtar Mahmood has turned down an application of the Citi Housing Scheme to revise the integrated master plan of Multan, stating the provincial government, not the commissioner, has the authority to constitute a commission to amend the plan.

The commissioner, in his order, stated the counsel for the scheme argued that the plan was for 2008-28 and had to be revised after five years.

The council had stated that on Jan 8, the commissioner constituted a commission for the revision of the plan and as per the orders of the Lahore High Court (issued on Sept 4, 2020), 3,000 kanal (in agricultural zone) be adjusted in the review of the plan.

The MDA representative also stated that preliminary planning permission for the new site submitted by the petitioner was turned down on Aug 26, 2020, as the proposed site was an orchard/agriculture zone and fell outside the peri-urban zone of the master plan.
