News Islamabad: To clear a path to the development of Margalla Enclave, a joint venture between the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Defence Housing Authority (DHA). The World War I monument on Kuri Road, 100 years old, was destroyed, which cost a significant portion of its history. According to the Department of Archaeology and Museums (DOAM), the British-era monument honoring warriors from the Potohar region was removed using heavy machinery.
The memorial was situated on a 40-foot mound near Rehara village, which has been flattened to create a commercial ground as part of the new housing project. Rather than being moved or destroyed, the site has been retained in its original location to preserve its historical context. The demolition reflects the mounting tension between preserving the capital’s diminishing cultural heritage and the increasing real estate development.
