Rawalpindi: Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Capt. Rtd. Muhammad Mehmood has instructed Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) to commence land survey for The Construction of the Lai Expressway. The estimated cost of the Lai Expressway is Rs. 55 billion.

Mr Mehmood conveyed this in a meeting he presided over. In this meeting, the pace of other development projects in the Division was also reviewed. The members of this meeting included the Director of Finance and Planning, Nazia Perveen, the Director General (D.G) of Rawalpindi Development Authority, Ammara Khan, officials from NESPAK, and other relevant officials.

Commissioner Rawalpindi Division also stated that the construction of the Lai Expressway would greatly help ease traffic congestion in the city. It will also prevent flooding in the city. He also stressed the strengthening of the socio-economic condition of the people living in nearby areas. This will be ensured after the construction of the Lai expressway and when new economic activities will take place around this project.

The objectives of this well-thought-out plan include reducing travel time, reducing the cost of vehicle operation, reducing traffic accidents, elevating highway safety standards, adding value to commerce and trade activities, and improving the socio-economic sector.
