Rawalpindi News: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has directed that no housing scheme in green areas be permitted for construction. This decision falls under the Smart Urban Plan, which aims to protect natural beauty and promote eco-friendly urban living.

The RDA Director General, Kinza Murtaza, stated that the authority is working on finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Land Information and Management System (LIMS) to implement this plan. In the future, the authority will permit any housing scheme within the green spaces in Rawalpindi.
This collaborative initiative enables the RDA to identify unauthorized societies in dedicated green belts. The growing concern over illegal urban expansion, resulting in encroachments on green areas and increasing pressure on civic infrastructure, necessitates this move.
No Housing Scheme in Green Belts Directed by RDA
DG Kinza Murtaza said that the MoU would pave the way for smart urban governance in Rawalpindi. Our goal is to make land use decisions more transparent, efficient and environmentally responsible through real-time data integration and oversight.

By partnering with LIMS, RDA intends to digitize land records, improve urban planning transparency, and enforce zoning regulations. RDA will be able to track development activities and preserve green belt areas.
The project aligns with the authority’s overarching goal of sustainable, technology-driven urban development. Additionally, it will help achieve long-term planning objectives, including controlling population growth, reducing unplanned sprawl and improving the standard of living for people in Rawalpindi.
In addition to reducing illegal housing activity, RDA officials believe that collaboration with LIMS will enhance agency cooperation and expedite the processing of planning permits. It also contributes to the development of a data-driven future for Rawalpindi’s urban governance.
