Islamabad News: China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is entering its second phase, as Pakistan and China intensify their cooperation. The CPEC Phase 2 will involve regional connectivity, agriculture, industrial cooperation and information technology (IT).

Recent high-level meetings in Islamabad indicate a renewed commitment to broadening the scope of CPEC beyond infrastructure. To finalize preparations for the upcoming Pakistan-China Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC), Minister of Planning, Ahsan Iqbal, met with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong today.The upcoming JCC meeting will approve the roadmap of Phase 2 of CPEC.
Pakistan, China gear up for CPEC phase two
Minister Iqbal said the first phase of CPEC has laid a solid foundation in energy and infrastructure projects. To achieve more inclusive and diversified growth, Phase II will align with Pakistan’s “5Es” development framework. The 5Es include encompassing export promotion, e-commerce development, climate change and environmental considerations, energy and infrastructure development and equity and social empowerment.

China’s Ambassador Jiang Zaidong stressed China’s unwavering support for Pakistan’s development efforts. He expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation would continue to deepen. Furthermore, Gwadar’s development and the operationalization of Special Economic Zones remain top government priorities, with plans to maximize its trade potential.
Pakistan continues to promote foreign investment to spur sustainable growth, despite ambitious targets, particularly in light of security threats to Chinese nationals involved in projects.
In Pakistan-China relations, the upcoming JCC meeting is expected to formalize many of these plans.
