Islamabad: Pakistan will host World Environment Day this year to mark the United Nations Decade’s start on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030, the UN Environment Program (UNEP) has recently been told.
Environmental problems facing Pakistan and steps taken to mitigate them will be highlighted. The day will be observed worldwide through numerous programs and events under the standard operating procedures of Covid-19 (SOPs).
Announcing the simulated fifth UN Environment Assembly, Advisor to Prime Minister on Climate Change, Malik Amin Aslam, joined Ms. Andersen to understand the significance of minimizing, stopping, and reversing habitats’ destruction worldwide.
The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration aims to expand the restoration of endangered habitats to tackle the climate crisis, avoid the extinction of a million animals and strengthen food security.
Pakistan has initiated the Eco-System Restoration Fund to promote natural solutions to climate change, encourage the transition to environmentally sustainable measures for afforestation and biodiversity conservation, he stated, adding 15 model protected areas are being established across the country to preserve more than 7,300 square kilometers of land that will generate more than 5,500 green employment opportunities.
