Rawalpindi: The Minister of Punjab Agriculture Department had just completed the construction of 44 ponds under a rainwater harvesting project, exclusively in Rawalpindi. The ultimate target is to build 180 ponds for this on-going fiscal year.
The objective of this scheme was exclusively subjected to upgrade the irrigation system, water table, as well as the provision of clean drinking water. The project, if implemented properly is going to be fruitful for the arid agriculture areas.
Syed Hossain Jahanian Gardezi addressed his concerns on his visit to Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agricultural University, where he has keenly observed the working criteria of the entire Agriculture Department.
The meeting further emphasized achieving the ultimate goal for a high-performance irrigation system for this on-going fiscal tenure. The goal was to achieve 1,645 acres that also includes fitting of solar systems approximately on 1,900 acres.
Furthermore, the Minister further elaborated that rainwater harvesting instruments would assist the irrigation system in Pakistan in more positive ways while enhancing the groundwater table and provide hygiene drinking water.
Similarly, the Punjab Government also assisted 60 percent subsidy for installation of drip and sprinkling techniques for effective use of irrigation instruments. Besides, approximately 50 percent subsidy was granted for the proper running of a solar drip irrigation system.
On the other hand, the Punjab Government has also considered revolutionary indicators to improve the water resources, exclusively in the Potohar region.
