Lahore News: The Punjab Government announced the launch of modern electric buses in the Sargodha Division. It is part of Maryam Nawaz’s vision to enhance public transport while maintaining sustainable transport across the province.

According to Khalid Mahmood, the secretary of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Sargodha City will receive 48 buses. Furthermore, 12 buses will be assigned to Khushab and Mianwali and Bhakkar will get 6 buses each.
Punjab to Launch Electric Buses in Sargodha Division
According to the officials, these buses are scheduled to begin operation on 14 August. Seniors, differently abled people and students will receive free travel on these electric buses, underscoring the initiative’s social inclusion goals.
Punjab plans to deploy 1,500 electric buses across the province and this milestone is part of it. As of April 2025, the Chief Minister approved the allocation of 380 buses to Lahore and Gujranwala in the first phase. The next phases will include Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Rahim Yar Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan.

Punjab’s electric bus initiative contributes to environmental sustainability, public health improvements, and inclusive mobility. The provincial government is taking steps toward greener, more equitable urban and rural travel by reducing diesel use and enhancing accessibility.
The electric buses has modern amenities and accessible features. Each bus can accommodate up to 80 passengers, with 30 seats. The buses include CCTV cameras, ramps, anti-slip flooring, Wi-Fi access, USB charging ports and GPS monitoring.
With the launch of Sargodha’s electric buses on 14 August, policymakers intend to complete a phased rollout of the network across the province by year’s end. The network provides a perfect balance between modern infrastructure and social welfare.
