Peshawar: According to a news published on January 19th, Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has permitted Urban Policy 2030. The action plan to encourage smart city development will soon be initiated.

As per news sources, the initiative was taken during a meeting held in the presence of CM Khan. In the meeting, Mr. Khan ensured that well-organized land management directly met the needs of urban centers. The CM also proposed master plans for urban areas. The master plans include development for Wana in the South Waziristan tribal district, Mardan City, and Mirali in the North Waziristan tribal district.

He also stated that no negligence would be tolerated regarding streamlining civic facilities in all sectors, as it is crucial. The minister also indicated that KP would be the first province in the country to develop an urban policy. Mr. Khan has directed the authorities to make an effective plan for the ‘pragmatic implementation mechanism’ within three months.
The Urban Policy and Planning Unit and Sub-National Governance Programme develop the urban policy after more than 12 months of discussion. The policy will be applied to all urban area development authorities, and its targets will be revised every two years until 2030.
