Islamabad News: CDA is constructing two new underpasses on the busy Srinagar Highway (formerly known as Kashmir Highway) as we speak. People have continuously demanded that CDA build an underpass for smooth entry to Srinagar Highway. The traffic from Murree didn’t have direct access to Srinagar Highway; instead, they had to use Kashmir Chowk’s roundabout to enter, which isn’t feasible and is often congested. This Srinagar Highway and Murree Road Underpass are proposed as part of Serena Chowk’s underpasses.

CDA’s Chairman, Mr Mohammad Ali Randhawa, visited the site with qualified engineers to review the project site and, shortly after, announced an underpass, using which the traffic coming from Muree’s side traffic on Murree Road can directly access the Srinagar Highway. This initiative is already in progress, and soil testing (on the construction site) has already commenced. The construction work is to be started soon.

This underpass is proposed to enhance accessibility while reducing the long traffic queues. According to the CDA representatives, the Srinagar Highway from Murree will be signal-free once the underpass is built.

The Serena Interchange’s initial construction cost is Rs 4.2 billion. This project is being completed and is in full swing. However, CDA has already missed the deadline of January 5, and the exact completion date is still unknown as there are multiple hurdles to it. The Serena Interchange will feature three underpasses, two on Kashmir Highway. The new-proposed underpass is the ultimate long-term solution for the ever-growing traffic in Islamabad.
